I am amazed. Gene Robinson has announced that he is to be “married” in June before the Lambeth conference. I would have thought that this would have been all over the Anglican blogs, but I have only found it in a couple of places. Read it here. For all the talk about inclusiveness and the listening process, it appears that Robinson has stopped listening.
I understand that there comes a point at which decisions are made, but for Robinson to pursue this course of action at this time, it is nothing short of inflammatory. Moreover, the Archbishop of Canterbury has received extensive pressure from the conservative side for his presiding at a “secret” LGBT meeting. Conservatives are pointing out that this shows the personal perspective of the ABC.
But for Robinson to announce this at this time, it is a slap in the face of the ABC. For someone who has attempted to find a middle way, it is hard to see how there is any middle way now.
Again, it is quite surprising the lack of discussion among conservatives in regard to this announcement. I personally do not see how the ABC can do anything but retract Robinson’s invitation to Lambeth. It is such a bold move by Robinson, seeming to say that communion is up to me and on my terms. Such a blatant disregard for the precariousness of the situation, shows the rest of us the true heart of the ‘liberal’ agenda.
